The Sathya Olive Company in Binningup wins eight 2017 Perth Royal Show prizes

Binningup business owners Keith and Tanuja Sanders were thrilled to find their range of olive products have claimed eight awards at this year’s Perth Royal Show.

The South Italian style table olives were given a gold trophy as the best olive of the show while four different infused oils were presented with silver medals.

Mrs Sanders, an engineer by trade, said the secret to The Sathya Olive Company’s success was her bold experimentation with new flavour combinations.

“My friends and family call me a food chemist because I love to strike the perfect balance between all of my flavours,” she said.

“We use a number of spices in our olive oil – many combinations of which are unique world wide to our business, such as our lemon grass and ginger infused olive oil.”

The husband and wife team bought their 100-acre property in 1999 and planted more than 2,500 olive trees between 2005 and 2007.

In 2013, they produced commercial oil for the first time and buoyed by the inital success, they have continued to expand their range.

“Currently our products are available online as well as at the Crooked Carrot cafe and Spudshed in Australind,” Mrs Sanders said.

As a WA olive council member, Mrs Sanders said it is her vision to make the olive industry a world leader and to help make olive growing a profitable and sustainable industry in Australia with employment opportunities for young people.
